Native Land: Tyrannia
Neopets 2001 Online
The Pteri is a feathery Neopet. It has two short legs ending in broad two-toed feet, and two fairly small wings. It can be identified by the ruffled feathers on its head, by its fluffy chest, and by its long tail (which is somewhat similar to that of the Zafara). At around 40cm tall, it is a medium-sized Neopet.
Pteris (occasionally written Pterii) originally come from the hot and dusty plains of Tyrannia, whose clear skies offer a perfect flying venue. They are fun-loving Neopets with a wicked sense of humour, who enjoy practical jokes. When not provided with a cosy bedroom by their owners, they like to sleep and sit on the upper branches of trees. They raise their young from eggs in soft nests lined with leaves. Despite the name similarity, Pteris do not seem to be related to the nonsentient Tyrannian creature known as the Pteradactyl.
The Pteri was introduced to the site on the 16th day of Hunting, Year Three (known to non-Neopians as May 16th, 2001), a few weeks after an earthquake in the Ice Caves revealed their Tyrannian homeland to the world. Their original art showed them in a rather hostile pose, perhaps needed in a country that was being attacked by all kinds of strange monsters and intruders at the time.
Pteri Trivia
- Unlike most pets, Pteris see nothing wrong with the idea of eating worms. In fact, worm-related food like the Worm Nugget is an effective folk remedy for Pteris with any kind of illness.
A Few Famous Pteris
- The Black Pteri's origin and goals are unknown, but for years Neopets have taken his presence as an ill omen. His appearance is often thought to herald the coming of an unnamed enemy.
- A red Pteri has the unfortunate job of telling Neopians when the site is Down For Maintenance. It really isn't his or her fault that the site isn't always stable, but many angry Neopians are quick to shoot the messenger-quite literally-and have sought to defeat him or her in the Battledome.
- Gif'N was one of the creators of the hit Tyrannian game Mini Golf. He originally wanted to name his creation 'Rock in Hole', but one of the first customers pointed out that it was too easily confused with 'Rock and Roll'. Quick to get bored, he is probably playing something newer and shinier these days with his long-suffering best friend Milo.
- The Golden Pteri appears around the site in a Random Event. This mysterious bird is known to shower other Pteris with a little share of good fortune.. mind your head.
- Altador Cup fans have the chance to cheer for Pteri player Clutch Billaban (Team Roo Island).
